Insert Hyperlinks in Excel

A hyperlink is a link that opens up another web page, file or section of a file when you click on it. It is a kind of shortcut created to go to a particular destination. The link can be for any web page, email address, file in your system, a section of a file or text.

The type of destination file and your default settings decides which software the file will open into. Suppose you create a hyperlink for a web page, it will open up in a web browser (Internet Explorer/ Chrome/Firefox etc.) depending upon your default web browser.

If the file is a pdf file, it will open in Adobe reader if that is your default pdf reader. Creating links in Excel is very simple and commonly used. When you click a cell containing the link, Excel opens up the specified destination. In Excel, you can display any text and create a hyperlink in excel without displaying the actual destination. You can also create a hyperlink link on an image.
